On the slab

Line: 0 mm
Steps burned: 0
Laser time: 0:40

The line burns in bronze, 0.35 mm wide, inside the slab's 90 mm window. Laser time is the model: burned area at the bronze recipe's rate, plus up to 40 s for the inscription. The clock tops out at 30:00.

How it works

X wheel, on the left: across. Y wheel, on the right: up and down. Turn clockwise to go right or up. Each click of a wheel is a 0.9 mm step, burned as it goes.
Grab anywhere in a wheel's pocket and turn it round. Turn both at once to draw diagonals. Flick a wheel and it keeps spinning.
On a keyboard: the arrow keys, or W A S D.
Buff erases about a third of the line. Four in a row clear the plate.
Print freezes the plate and gives you its burn code.
The scales on the glass read the 90 mm window in millimetres; the amber marks show where the laser is.
